Cheaha Loop w/ Whit and Adam 03-2016

 Awesome trip. I hate that I waited so long to post some of these old trips because I could have written so much more. 

This trip was Whit, Adam, and I doing the Pinhoti, Chinabee, Skyway loop. Plato (Whit's dog) came along too!

This was a great duo trip with just Whit and I down the Blackwater River. Also noticing this was before I discovered how annoying portrait-style photos are and started taking most of my pictures horizontal. If you guys haven't noticed much of this blog between 2015-2021 was done retroactively, thus the past tense. I remember this trip like it was yesterday though.  Kayaking is an awesome way to go backpacking because you can take more stuff, and you don't have to carry it except from the boat to the trees when you stop.

Backpacking Cheaha - Aiden's first trip! Jan 30-31, 2021

This was my baby's first backpacking trip ever! At the time of this trip he was 5 years old! We had soooo much fun! This trip was wonderful and exciting at the same time! We decided to do Aiden’s first backpacking adventure at Cheaha State Park about a mile in on the Pinhoti trail. He was super excited, but fell asleep on the way there after asking how many more minutes it was about 5 or 6 times. I was so tickled that he fell asleep! Then he woke immediately as I pulled into the parking lot and started asking questions about this and that. We readied our packs and took our start-of-trip picture. He did really well on the way up. He did not complain of his pack being too heavy or being tired or anything. In fact, I chased him most of the way up the mountain and had to keep telling him to slow down and wait for Daddy! Shining Rock Wilderness, NC 1/29/15 - 2/1/15

This was my first trip with my friend Kirk, also known as Bammacker on hammockforums.net. Kirk did most of the planning for this one. He has a friend at Mountain High outfitters who recommended this particular loop. Kirk said he had been hearing the guy recommend this loop for over a year and finally decided to take the plunge. This was the absolute COLDEST trip I've ever been on as well as the most elevation I've ever climbed in a day, and the highest elevation I've ever hiked to. We left out from Birmingham around 3:30pm on Thursday and undertook the 5.5 hour trip to the Big East Fork Trailhead in Pisgah National Forest, our starting point. We arrived around 9:30 pm or so our time, 10:30 pm EST, geared up, and headed up the trail.
